Sounds and Lights and Teeth
One day, as he beatboxed his way through the Null he heard something. Something other than himself that is. It stopped shortly after he stopped to listen.
Nothing.
He let out a clap of disappointment, and then suddenly, there it was again. An echo? He shouted. His shout was returned. Was that a glimmer of light? Yes! More shouts from him and more echoes but no other reply. He was drifting relative to the oh-so-dim light… or… lights. He was drifting in a way that was not bringing him directly to the lights but would take him past them eventually. No. there must be some way to get to them. He was aware of magics that others could use to move themselves but it was not something his databanks revealed as his own knowledge. Still, it was something he knew existed. He must try.
It seemed to take forever but somehow he could feel that certain sounds and movements allowed him to slowly push..? pull..? guide himself toward the lights. This was power, not from his creators and not entirely from himself either. Some was him but the rest was of the Null. It was part of him now. A small part to be sure, but still. A part of the energies of Jumpspace had been imbued upon him.
Eventually, he was able to get close to the massive rock formation with the lights. Luckily, the bioluminescence was given off by a form of plant. When touched they would brighten briefly. When picked they would maintain their glow but only for about an hour by his reckoning. It was while he was gathering some, and in so doing, setting off repeated brightening events, that he heard something else. This was not an echo. This was movement. Quickly, his self-preservation instincts had him looking for a spot to hide. He did what he could and waited. There! A brightening of the plants. He could see something larger than himself slithering along between the rocks and occasionally touching one of the plants giving him a chance to see more detail. It was not pleasant. It was unlikely to be friendly as it was obviously a predator. The flash of a toothy maw in the light and a probing tongue was enough to tell him he needed to be quick in his attack. He quickly cast and put the creature to sleep with a spell. Knowing this would not last long enough for him to figure a way off this rock, he drew his shortbow and took a well-aimed shot and struck true. However, the creature was not dead. It immediately charged. Deev attempted another spell and successfully blinded the creature just before it got to him. Deev tumbled to the side as the creature thrashed around in an attempt to find Deev and in doing so smacked Deev with its massive tail. The strike hurt like the hells but may have saved his life as it sent him careening off the rock formation, back into the Null. This was not the end of the fight as the creature leaped off the rocks, propelling itself at Deev. Fortunately, it was not traveling at a greater speed and was unable to catch him immediately which allowed Deev to send a series of bow attacks at the creature. Hit after hit it took until finally it stopped moving. Using the telekinetic techniques of movement he had used to get to the rock formation, he made his way to the snake-like creature and began to examine it. It was not only somewhat interesting it helped to pass the time.
