Acceptance of Power from an Itinerate God
OR Boredom Will Make You Do Some Crazy Things
When Deev was created divine magics were used in an attempt to grant him divine powers. These were done in conjunction with his creators’ god, Trithereon (PHB https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/phb/appendix-b-gods-of-the-multiverse#Greyhawk). This worked but it was an awkward, secondary party integration that didn’t help in keeping Deev’s mind straight. He had spells and powers like that of a devout cleric but never felt the direct connection that are reported in others who have gained such abilities.
So, when a random wandering deity came upon the floating little construct and actually took a bit of interest, it didn’t take Deev long to fall under the deity’s influence. And that’s how Deev converted from getting powers from Trithereon to actually worshipping Celestian. Accoutrements of divine practice included (and exchanged for the old ones he had). Oddly enough, Deev figured this new patron might give him a push (or at least a hint as to where) the closest safe harbor might be. But no. A little pat on the head and Mr. Celestian was off once more.
